Book Banning

By Nikhil Byrapuram

When books are banned, we lose a part of our soul

our minds are unopened, so we fall into a hole

ideas are forgotten and knowledge is lost;

education is harmed with words as the cost.

Books are a doorway to new perspectives and truth

they help us open our minds and strengthen our youth

to ban them is to silence someone’s valued experience

and prevent others from growing from that same percipience.

The words on the page aren’t just black and white

they give us a view that takes us to new heights

they teach us to love, to feel, to think and to earn

our place: without them, we’re denied the opportunity to learn.

Book banning is harmful because it restricts speech

it’s a form of censorship that sucks like a leech

books help us imagine what we don’t know

take them away and people won’t grow.

Books help us navigate a world where we need to skip, walk and run

and give so many people new pathways to fun

let everyone learn, think and show

what they love: end book banning and help the world grow.

I am 14yr old boy who loves to read books. I wrote a poem to share with you on Banning Books and how souls feel.
